Ann @ 2:32 pm

Brody Brooks, the Vice President of the Cogswell Game Development Club will present Beat Down Bob and Brothers in Arms.

About Us

The Game Development Club are a group of artists, programmers, and designers at Cogswell Polytechnical College who share a passion for the development and production of computer and video games. As a group, we meet regularly after class to hone our skills and gain experience by experimenting with tools, engines, and techniques. Every term we test our skills by holding events like a Game In A Day, Game In A Month and a 3-Day Game Challenge in order to become more efficient at rapidly prototyping games and effectively communicating our ideas with others.

Presentation

Every term, the Game Development Club holds a month-long event called Game In A Month, which brings students in from all the different majors to split up in teams, each developing a game from concept to beta in one month. We constrain ourselves to a month so we can focus on the bare essential gameplay and making a simple yet fun experience. Some games that come out of the woodwork are terrific fun despite any bugs, while others don’t quite make the cut, and in those cases we try to reflect on what went wrong.

So here, we’re going to show off one of the games that we’ve produced in a month’s time, Beat Down Bob.

A bunch of our more experienced members got together last term for a greater challenge: make a game in 3 days. At the time we called it Game Challenge, but looking back, it was more like Induced Crunch. The challenge was to make a sequel to Beat Down Bob, with cash prizes at stake. Two teams made a sequel, and here’s a demo of the winner: Beat Down Bob 2: Brothers With Arms.
